Dominic Lieven is Professor of Russian Government
and Coordinator of the MSc in Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics.
He was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard in 1973-74, a Humboldt Fellow in Germany,
and a visiting professor at Tokyo University and Harvard. He became a Fellow
of the British Academy in 2001.
His research interests include: comparative imperial history, problems of political
stability on the European periphery 1860-1939, and Russia's confrontation with
Napoleon 1807-14. His most recent book is entitled Empire: The Russian Empire
and Its Rivals (John Murray/Yale University Press, 2000), and his current project
is A History of Russia's Confrontation with Napoleon:1807-14.
